eCase Provides Simple, Non-urgent Platform for GP/Specialist Consults

Family physicians wishing to quickly consult with their specialist colleagues can now access eCASE – a new, non-urgent complement to the existing RACE telephone advice service. eCASE allows primary care providers to type out a non-urgent question to a specialist using the ‘dr2dr’ Secure Messaging Service, to receive a response within a week. There’s also the option of attaching clinical documents to help inform the specialist about the patient’s case.

Participating specialty areas include: Addictions Medicine, Cardiology, ENT, General Internal Medicine, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Respirology, Rheumatology, and Thrombosis.

Evaluation surveys and interviews have shown positive results so far with 70% of questions taking 15 minutes or less to address, and 53% of conversations avoiding an unnecessary referral.
